Buhari To Curb Construction Of 260km Highway In Cross River State

President Muhammadu Buhari will flag off the construction of a 260km highway in Cross River state on Monday, September 21, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. This information was revealed by the spokesperson to the governor of the state Ben Ayade, Christian Ita, who released a statement to this effect, today, September 14.

The statement stated that the highway is one of the two key projects of the current administration in the state. Parts of the statement read: ”Major geo- technical studies have been carried out on the other project, the Bakassi Deep Seaport. Upon completion, the hghway will serve as the evacuation route for the Seaport.”

According to the statement, the chief of staff to the president, Abba Kyari, wrote a letter to Ayade confirming the president’s willingness to attend the ceremony. The statement quoted Kyari’s statement as saying: ”I write to inform you that President Muhammadu Buhari, has acceded to your request. Mr. President, will perform the Ground Breaking of the 240km Super Highway Dual Carriage Road from Calabar to Northern Nigeria.”

When completed, the road is expected to reduce travel time from Calabar to Obudu Ranch Resort, from six to two hours.
