The army said some of the items recently recovered from the terrorists have confirmed intelligence reports that the insurgents often use corrugated roofing sheets and bathroom slippers in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The army spokesperson, Sani Usman said these bombs have most times affected troops advancement in the terrorist’s infested region.
Usman said some troops moving towards Banki axis on Tuesday afternoon cleared more terrorist camps and captured weapons, flags and these IEDs at Jangolori and Bulaburma villages.
“In addition, it is quite clear that the campaign against the terrorists is yielding the desired result because they are fast running out of arms, ammunition and other logistics,” Usman said.
Commending the collaboration, intelligence and information sharing between Nigerian forces and it neighbouring counterparts under the umbrella of the multinational joint task force, Usman said troops are optimistic that the terrorists would be defeated soon.
He urged the public to continue availing troops with information on activities of the insurgents warning that as the terrorists are on the run, there is need for more vigilance and security consciousness among all.
“Consequently, there is need for more alertness among all to pre-empt the terrorists and other criminal elements in the society,” he said.
The Nigerian military have recorded commendable successes since a deadline was issued by President Muhammadu Buhari. The deadline is expected to elapse in December although the military have said it is optimistic that terrorists would be cleared from the North East part of Nigeria where they carry out their attacks.
Such successes can be seen in the re-liberation of Gamboru-Ngala, a popular market community in Borno state which was liberated by Chadian forces and recaptured by the terrorists in March after the community was handed over to the Nigeria forces.
