Naij News: Corps members Fight Against Drugs Abuse In Lagos State

Some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos have taken drugs abuse education to the streets of Nigeria's economic capital.

The corps members who belong to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Community Development Service (CDS) group organized a sensitization rally about the dangers of prohibited drugs.
According to a The Nation report, the corps members moved from the New Garage Bus stop to Ojota bus stop.

They talked to youths and other passersby about the dangers of drug abuse.
The President of the CDS group, Olaitan Ogunwande, reportedly said the ultimate aim of the initiative is to encourage youths stop abusing harmful substances.

“Our aim is to sensitize Lagosians on the harmful effects of drug abuse," Ogunwande said.
He added that the group hopes to replicate the event for greater effect.
"We have achieved some level of success but we hope to organize more sensitization rallies in other cities, so that youths will drop the habit.”

One of the participants, Maureen Achugbu, told the newspaper that the rally was successful.
“We met some youths, who confessed to be using hard drugs and they promised to change after we educated them on the danger such conduct portends for their lives," Achugbu said.
The Lagos commander of NDLEA, Aliyu Sule, commended the corps members for their effort
