Education: WAEC to release Students Withheld Result in the next 24hrs

The West African Examination Council has announced that it will release results of candidates whose states are owing the exam council.

The head of Nigeria National Office, WAEC, Charles Eguridu, said the results will be released in 24 hours on the web portal.
Eguridu said the decision to reverse its initial delay in releasing the candidate’s results was due to pleas by various education stakeholders including the intervention of the secretariat of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum.
He further told the council that he did not wish to impede on the educational progress of any Nigerian child. Eguridu said, “the council hopes that the affected states will reciprocate this gesture, by fully meeting their financial obligations to the council so as to enable it meet its own obligations to its supervisors, examiners as well as service providers and other creditors.

Asked to list the number of states affected, Eguridu said it will be unfair for the exam council to mention the states affected as some states have already paid in some reasonable amount of money.

“Our decision to open this window of opportunity, that is, the resort to Advance Payment Guarantees for affected states, was as a result of our appreciation of the prevailing economic challenges facing the nation and in order not to jeopardize the educational progress of the candidates of the affected states,” he said few days ago, on releasing results of candidates who took the May/June 2015 examination, WAEC had withheld the results of some of the candidates who were sponsored by some states.
The action by the exam body was condemned by many Nigerians who believed the decision is quite unfair and may probably affect the education sector.
